Fresh off last night's win over La Salle, the Fordham volleyball team looked to extend their win streak to four against Temple on Saturday, and did so in style with a three-set sweep of the Owls. It was only Fordham's second win ever against the Owls. Final set scores were 25-22, 27-25, and 25-19.
With the win, Fordham improves to 16-14 overall, 4-6 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple fell to 14-11 overall, 6-5 in conference play.
In set one, the score was tied at 11, before Fordham got three straight points, capped by a block from Katherine Burrell and Christi Griffiths. Temple got to within one, 22-21, but a bad set by Temple, a block from Kailee May, and a service error by the Owls gave Fordham a three-point win.
The Fordham offense got into the act in set two, recording 19 kills and hitting .234, compared to 10 kills and a .095 percentage for Temple. With the score knotted at 25, Griffiths recorded her fifth kill of the set with Fordham taking the set on a Temple error.
In set three, Fordham jumped out to a 10-5 lead, as the Rams posted three service aces in that span. Temple got back to within two late, 21-19, but Fordham recorded four straight points to close out the match with a 25-19 win.
For Fordham, Kailee May recorded a match-high 11 kills to go with nine digs and three aces, while Jenna Hart had nine kills and a match-high 14 digs. Katie Wells added nine kills and two blocks with Katherine Burrell posting 38 assists and six digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, November 8th, when they host Charlotte at the Rose Hill Gym, beginning at 7:00 PM.
