Dallas Harting won at second singles but that would be the only point the Fordham University men's tennis would get as the Rams fell to NJIT, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, which snaps a three-match Fordham winning streak, the Rams even their record at 3-3 on the year.
Fordham opened the match by dropping the doubles point, losing all three doubles matches. Harting and Austin Shoup lost at first doubles to Stephen Erickson and Cosmin Chiujdea, 8-5, while Nick Kelly and Peter Slucky fell at second doubles to NJIT's Jonathan Lang and Anthony Tunnerro, 8-6. The Highlanders swept the doubles competition when Bryan Keelan and Dimitri Athans won at third doubles over Fordham's Sotiris Georgiou and Ken Fukumoto, 8-4.
Harting was up 2-1 in the first set against Lang when Lang retired due to injury. Brandon Abbatiello almost picked up another point for Fordham at third singles as he dropped the first set to Chiujdea, 6-2, before coming back to force a third set with a 6-4 win in the second set. But Chiujdea took the third set, 6-2, to win the match.
The Rams will next be in action on Friday, October 10th, as they host Siena College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:30 p.m.
