The Fordham University men's tennis team won its third straight match on Tuesday, defeating Rider University, 5-2, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. With the win, the Rams improve to 3-2 on the year.
Fordham opened the match taking the doubles point with wins in all three doubles matches. Austin Shoup and Dallas Harting teamed up to win at first doubles over Rider's Casey Jedlinski and Josh Rultenberg, 8-6, while Peter Slucky and Nick Kelly took second doubles from Will Haight and Rob Olson, 8-3. Eli Plangger and Ken Fukumoto completed the doubles sweep for the Rams, defeating Aaron Goldenthal and Mike Kulpinski at third doubles.
Fordham then took four of the six singles matches to win the match. Harting survived a marathon match with Rultenberg at second singles, winning the first set, 6-2, before Rultenberg took the second, 6-2, forcing a tie breaker. Harting took the tie breaker, 10-7.
The Rams also won fourth, fifth and sixth singles, all in straight sets. Pat Tool was victorious at fourth singles over Olsen, 6-1 and 6-3, while Sotiris Georgiou took fifth singles from Goldenthal, 6-1 and 6-1. Kevin Maloney recorded the fourth singles win for Fordham, defeating Kupinski, 6-0 and 6-1, at sixth singles.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, October 8th, as they travel to Newark, N.J., to face New Jersey Institute of Technology at 2:30 p.m.
