Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University rowing squad competed at the Head of the Schuylkill on the Schuylkill River on Saturday with both the Varsity 8 and the Freshman/Novice 8 boats taking second.

The Varsity 8 competed in the Women's Open Club along with 28 other boats, finishing behind Navy but almost 42 seconds in front of Atlantic 10 foes, Saint Joseph's. The Rams also finished ahead of Temple, which finished 21st.

In the Freshman/Novice 8, the Rams took second of 36 boats, being edged out by Bucknell by less than two seconds. But Fordham placed 17 seconds ahead of Penn and easily defeated boats from Atlantic 10 schools Saint Joseph's, Temple and La Salle.

The Fordham women also rowed in the Freshman/Novice 4 race, placing in the top ten.

The Fordham rowers will next be in action on Sunday, November 2nd, as they compete in the 2008 Metropolitan Fall Championships at Orchard Beach.
