Bronx, N.Y. -
Saturday, October 25th marks Homecoming Weekend at Fordham University and the athletic department will play a prominent role in welcoming back alumni to Rose Hill.
The weekend starts on Friday night as the new Seven Blocks of Granite monument will be formally dedicated at 5:00 p.m. Located at the corner of Constitution Row and the Gate A entrance to Jack Coffey Field, the monument is a generous gift from Joe Moglia, FCRH '71, and honors both sets of Fordham's famous Seven Block, the 1929-30 version and the 1936-37 edition.
Later in the evening, football alumni, family and friends will be welcomed back with a special Football Alumni Reception in the O'Keefe Commons room of O'Hare Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m. The evening will be a celebration of Fordham football throughout the eras. Reconnect with fans and former teammates while enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Cost is $50/person.
Also at 7:00 p.m. the Fordham women's soccer team will take on the University of Rhode Island on Jack Coffey Field in an Atlantic 10 showdown. The women's squad is collecting supplies for Marines currently in Iraq at their games this weekend. These supplies include tuna fish, soup, canned and dried fruit, Beef Jerky, natural peanut butter and jelly, hand sanitizer, ground coffee (Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, etc.), nuts (cashews, almonds, trail mix, etc.), Nature Valley Granola Bars, Coffeemate® and Splenda®. Collection boxes will be located at the main entrance to Jack Coffey Field.
On Saturday, the football Rams will host Lafayette on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m. Here is a complete schedule for Saturday:
- 11 a.m. - Martyrs' Court Lawn opens for "Under the Tent" Homecoming.

The game will also feature Fordham head coach Tom Masella joining with other head coaches throughout the country to fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. By wearing an arm band with the Coach to Cure MD insignia, the coaches will show their support for Coach to Cure MD, the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) newest charitable project.
"College football is a team game and all of us in the coaching profession are asking football fans to help us defeat the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy," said Grant Teaff, a coaching legend at Baylor University, who is now the Executive Director of the American Football Coaches Association.
Football fans will be able to donate to muscular dystrophy research either online at CoachToCureMD.org or by texting the word "CURE" to 90999 to automatically donate $5 from their mobile phones.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood. Because the Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome, it primarily affects boys and occurs across all races and cultures.
Things don't slow down on Sunday as the water polo Rams host a pair of games in the Col. Messmore Aquatics Center, facing Salem International at 9:00 a.m. and then Gannon at 11:30 a.m. The women's soccer team will then host the University of Massachusetts on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m. to close out Homecoming 2008.
If you can't make it to any of the games, you can follow them live (football and women's soccer) on the internet (via audio and video streaming) at www.fordhamsports.com.
