Men's Basketball Tip-Off Dinner Set for November 3rd

Oct. 2, 2008

Bronx, N.Y. - Join Fordham University head coach Dereck Whittenburg and the 2008 men's basketball squad at the 2008 Tip-Off Dinner, to be held on Monday, November 3rd, at the Roosevelt Hotel beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Rams will honor former player Michael Fitzgerald, FCRH '65, a forward on the 1962-1965 teams, and present the Michael J. Armstrong award for spirit, loyalty and friendship. Special guest speaker Morgan Wootten will share the story of his legendary coaching career.

Wootten, the Hall of Fame DeMatha High School coach, posted a remarkable 1,274-192 record over 46 years as head coach, recording the highest winning percentage (.869) of any coach with more than 500 wins in the history of organized sport. Among his numerous high school All-Americans was Whittenburg, who played for Wootten from 1976-79, leading the 1978 team to a National Championship.

This year's dinner is sure to be a sell-out, so be sure to reserve your place early by calling Alex Morr at 212-636-6489 or emailing Morr at morr@fordham.edu. You can also download the invite by clicking here.
