Women's Tennis Closes Out Fall Dual Match Season with Win Over Queens College

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad closed out the dual match portion of its 2008 fall season with a 4-3 win over Queens College on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. With the win, the Rams improve to 2-3 on the year while Queens falls to 7-2.

Fordham opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston teamed up to win at first doubles over Queens' Alyssa Morra and Maria Mendes, 8-2, while Bethany Boyle and Sarah Tremaine took second doubles for the Rams from Laura Mocodeanu and Jessie Franklin, 8-4. The Queens team of Maria Perevezentseva and Taylor Barber won at third doubles over Jane Carroll and Kathryn Silva, 8-4.

Liguori kept her singles record unblemished this fall, taking first singles from Mendez in straight sets (6-0 and 6-1) while Tremaine was victorious at third singles over Barber, dropping the first set, 6-4, before coming back to win the next two by identical 6-0 scores.

Carroll picked up the other singles point for the Rams, defeating Perevezentseva in three sets. Carroll won the first set, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-4. Carroll then picked up the win with a 6-1 win in the third set.

The Rams also had a chance to pick up a point at sixth singles as Silva fell in the first set to Queens' Franklin, 6-1, before coming back to take the second set, 6-3. But Franklin won the tiebreaker, 10-5.

Members of the Fordham team will next be in action from October 24th through the 26th at the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia.
