Charlotte's Chris Salvaggione scored his ninth goal of the season in the final minute of regulation, as Fordham's upset bid fell short against the 21st-ranked 49ers by a score of 2-1 at Jack Coffey Field.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 4-5-1 overall, 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Charlotte improves to 9-2-0 overall, 1-0 in the conference.
Fordham started out the match with some excellent play, as they netted the first goal of the contest in the 26th minute. Matt Courtenay headed home his third goal of the season on a cross from John Pardini from ten yards out.
Fordham finished the half, holding onto a 1-0 lead, as both teams registered four shots and one corner kick in the first half.
The Rams just missed making it 2-0 early in the second half, as off a cross, Pardini headed the ball toward the goal, but it just cleared the crossbar for a high shot.
Charlotte then knotted the game at one in the 55th minute. After a Fordham foul near the right corner of the field, Evan James headed a goal in off a Ryan Swaim cross for his fourth goal of the year.
Fordham tried to regain the lead at the 63:00 mark, as Grant Kerr volleyed a shot toward the goal, but Charlotte goalkeeper David Martin was able to snag the ball at the last moment.
The match stayed tied at one until the final minute of regulation. Charlotte's Kent Long crossed the ball into the box, where Chris Salvaggione was able to drive a shot from 14 yards into the net for his ninth goal of the season, which turned out to be the game-winner.
In net, Charlotte's David Martin made six saves in the contest, while Fordham's Ryan Meara had three saves.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 12th as they host ninth-ranked Saint Louis, beginning at 1:00 PM.
