Track & Field Competes at Terrier Classic

Boston, Mass. - The Fordham track & field teams competed at the Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University, this weekend with two Ram relays qualifying for the ECAC/IC4A Championship later this season.

On day one, the men's distance medley relay team, consisting of Matt Lowenthal, Michael Kearney, Clifton Hilario, and Tom Finnerty, placed second overall behind only Duke University in 10:02.90 to qualify for the IC4A Cahmpionship.

The rest of day one belonged to the women's team, as senior Melissa Salerno led the way with a ninth place finish in the 800 meters in a season-best time of 2:15.88. Junior Jeana Fletcher placed in the top 15 in three different events as she took 13th in the 55 meter hurdles (9.16), 14th in the high jump (5' 1 ¾"), and 14th in the shot put (36' 0"). Sophomore Catherine Groene also posted a Fordham season-best time, taking 45th overall in the 200 meters in a time of 27.24 seconds.

On day two, the women's 4x800 relay started the day by qualifying for the ECAC Championship. Kathleen Reilly, Groene, Salerno, and Kerri Gallagher combined to finished second overall to Duke in 9:16.56.

Then the men took center stage, as junior Matt DiBuono put together two top ten finishes, as he took third in the weight throw (57' 11 ¾") and tenth in the shot put (43' 9"). Senior Brian Mulkeen and freshman Brian Schmidt also placed in the top ten, as Mulkeen was ninth in the weight throw (51' 11 ¼") and Schmidt took eighth in the 500 meters in a season-best time of 1:04.59.

Lowenthal and Kearney both placed in the top 15 in their respective events, as Kearney was 14th in the 500 meters (1:05.32) and Lowenthal finished 12th in the 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:54.85.

The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Friday, February 1st, as they compete at the 2008 Metropolitan Championships, hosted at the 168th Street Armory.
