The Fordham University men's basketball Rams will open their 2008 Atlantic 10 home season as they host the George Washington University Colonials on Wednesday night, January 16th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Rose Hill Gym. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org.
The Rams enter the game with a 6-8 overall record, 0-2 in the Atlantic 10, and are coming off a 68-50 Atlantic 10 loss to Xavier in Cincinnati last Saturday afternoon. George Washington, winners of two of its last three, enters the game with a 5-6 overall record, 1-0 in the conference, and is coming off a 49-20 Atlantic 10 win over Saint Louis University in Washington, D.C., last Thursday.
Fordham will be led into the game by senior forward Bryant Dunston, a Queens native who was a Preseason First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection. He enters the game with 258 career blocks, tying him with Damon Lopez for first place on the Fordham all-time blocked shots list. On the year, Dunston, who has recorded four straight double-doubles, is averaging 15.6 ppg and 8.7 rpg, both team highs, as he leads the conference in rebounding. Senior guard Marcus Stout is averaging 14.2 ppg for the Rams while leading the team in assists (42) and steals (20).
George Washington is led by junior forward Wynton Witherspoon, who is averaging 12.7 ppg and 5.0 rpg while junior forward Rob Diggs is averaging 11.9 ppg and 8.0 rpg.
Wednesday night's game will be the 21st meeting between Fordham and George Washington on the hardwood with the Colonials leading the all-time series, 16-4.
