Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University freshman Christi Griffiths (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was named Atlantic 10 Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 3rd. This is Griffiths' first career Atlantic 10 honor, and the first Rookie of the Week award for a Fordham player since Stephanie Frost in 2004.
Griffiths had an outstanding week for Fordham, hitting .377, while averaging 3.90 kills and 1.33 blocks per game. She posted at least 16 kills in all five matches this past week. She opened the week by hitting .548 against Iona on Wednesday with a season-high 18 kills and four blocks. She was then named to the All-Tournament team at the Western New York Invitational over the weekend. On Saturday, she posted 16 kills and nine blocks in both matches against Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Canisius, and then recorded 16 kills and three blocks in both matches on Sunday against South Florida and Niagara.
Griffiths and the rest of the Fordham volleyball team (5-4) will next be in action on September 7-8, as they participate in the Big Orange Tournament, hosted by Syracuse University. The Rams will meet Texas Tech on Friday, and then take on Syracuse and Princeton on Saturday.
