Bronx, N.Y. -
Fordham University sophomore defensive back Isiejah Allen (Bethesda, Md./Gonzaga) and freshman linebacker Isa Abdul-Quddas (Union, N.J./Union) received weekly Patriot League honors today with Allen being named Defensive Player of the Week and Abdul-Quddas Rookie of the Week.
Fordham opened its 125th Anniversary season last Saturday with a thrilling 27-23 win over the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I. as John Skelton hit Jason Caldwell with a nine-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds left in the game. The win was the first opening day win for Fordham since the 2003 squad defeated C.W. Post.
Allen, who was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week once last year, led the Fordham defense with eleven total tackles, six solo, including one for a loss and one sack. He also intercepted a pass on the one-yard line, thwarting a potential Rhode Island scoring chance, and returned it 28 yards while also bringing two kickoffs back for 49 yards on special teams.
Abdul-Quddas had a huge collegiate debut, recording nine total tackles, seven solo, including a team-high three for a loss along with two sacks. He also registered one quarterback hurry.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, September 8th as they host the University at Albany in their home opener on Jack Coffey Field at 6:00 p.m.
