Santa Cruz, Calif. - The Fordham water polo team wrapped up its west coast road trip with a 5-2 record, as they posted a 2-1 mark in their final three games.
The Rams needed overtime to defeat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 9-8, in dramatic fashion on Saturday night. With Fordham leading 9-8 in overtime, Claremont was awarded a penalty shot with 26 seconds remaining. Fordham goalkeeper Timmy Will came up with a two-handed stop on the penalty shot, enabling Fordham to run out the clock.
Will made a season-high 14 saves in the game to go with three steals, while Alex Powell led the offense with three goals. Ryan Hultman added a pair of tallies and a steal, while Paul Shrewsbury, Jakob Muller, Luke Forand, and Andrew Dentinger closed out the scoring.
The Rams then defeated La Verne by an 8-6 count on Sunday morning. Powell again led the way with four goals, while Hultman added two. Taylor Landesman and Brian Jucas closed out the scoring, while Will made nine saves.
In their final match, Fordham got outlasted by the University of Redlands, 10-9. Powell netted three goals and an assist in the game, and has now posted at least three goals in each of the final six games of the road trip. Shrewsbury also netted three goals and a steal, while Todd Conway had a pair of goals. In net, Will made 11 saves and four steals.
The Fordham water polo team will now return home on October 5th, as they host the University of Toronto at 8:00 PM.
