Bridgeport, Pa. - The Collegiate Water Polo Association announced its weekly awards today, as Fordham freshman Alex Powell (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes) was named Northern Division Player of the Week. It is the first time that a Fordham water polo player has earned weekly honors.
Powell had a very productive road trip for the Rams, who traveled to the west coast for the first time in team history. He scored 23 total goals, and had at least three goals in the final six games of the road trip, as Fordham went 5-2.
Against Santa Clara, he tallied four goals and two assists, before adding four goals and an assist against Santa Cruz and four goals versus La Verne. He had three goals versus Whittier and Claremont Mudd Scripps, and three goals and an assist against Redlands.
Powell currently leads the Rams in goals (30) and shots (80), while being second in points (36). The Rams are currently 7-7 on the season, and receiving votes in the CWPA Northern Division regional rankings. Their next game is on October 5th, as the host the University of Toronto at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
