Volleyball Falls To #21 St. John's

Bronx, N.Y. - St. John's Dana DeMayo registered a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs, while Casie Brooks had 11 kills, as the 21st ranked St. John's Red Storm swept a three-game match from the Fordham Rams on Tuesday night at the Rose Hill Gym. Final game scores were 30-16, 30-25, and 30-23.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-10, while St. John's is 15-2.

St. John's came out hitting to start the match with a .538 hitting percentage in the game one win. Fordham did hang tight in game two, taking a 20-16 lead on a block point by Katie Wells and Katherine Burrell. St. John's then countered with seven straight points to take a 23-20 lead and eventually win game two. Fordham again hung around with the Red Storm in game three, as the teams were tied at 16, before the Red Storm scored six straight points en route to the match win.

Overall, St. John's hit .304 in the match, compared to .078 for Fordham.

For Fordham, Christi Griffiths registered a match-high 14 kills and eight blocks, while Katie Wells and Jolanda Gunning-Snowden each had six kills. Katherine Burrell dished out 27 assists to go with four digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, September 21st, as they open conference play at home against George Washington University at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
