(September 15, 2007) - Fordham's Brandon Abbatiello won at sixth singles, but it turned out to be the lone point, as St. Peter's defeated Fordham, 6-1, in the Rams' season opener at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.

St. Peter's opened play by sweeping the three doubles matches for the doubles point. The closest match was at first doubles as St. Peter's J.J. Granatica and Sergey Igel defeated Dallas Harting and Austin Shoup by an 8-5 final.

In singles' play, Fordham's Brandon Abbatiello took home the lone Fordham win at sixth singles, defeating Jake Baranowski, 6-3, 6-1. The Rams almost grabbed a second singles win at first singles, but Harting was outlasted by Granatica in a super tiebreaker. The final scores were 4-6, 6-3, and 18-16.

The Fordham Men's Tennis team will next be in action on Tuesday, September 18th, as they host NJIT at 3:30 PM on the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
