Fordham Junior Varsity Football Falls to Nassau Community College, 21-6

Aug. 31, 2007

Bronx, N.Y. - Jahmaine Rodriguez rushed 11 times for 71 yards and two scores to lead Nassau Community College to a 21-6 win over the Fordham University Junior Varsity on Jack Coffey Field.

After holding the Rams to three and out on the first series of the game, the Lions drove downfield on six plays to take an early 7-0 lead on NCC's first possession.

The score remained 7-0 until Nassau Community College took advantage of a Fordham miscue to go up 14-0 in the second quarter. Fordham took over on its own 31 following a punt, but on the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Clayton Busch couldn't handle the snap and the ball was recovered by Michael Gee for the Lions on the Fordham six.

Nassau Community College needed just one play to cover the six yards with Jahmaine Rodriguez breaking through the line off right tackle and into the end zone for a 14-0 Lions lead.

The Fordham offense wasn't able to cross midfield for the rest of the second quarter as Nassau Community College took the 14-0 lead into halftime.

On the first possession of the second half, the Lions took over on their own 45 following the kickoff and moved the 55 yards on four plays with Jahmaine Rodriguez covering the last 46 on the ground to put Nassau Community College up 21-0. The scoring play came on a fourth and less than a yard from the Fordham 46 when Jahmaine Rodriguez broke through the line and then took the ball to the outside, racing untouched into the end zone.

Early in the fourth quarter, Fordham took advantage of a Nassau Community turnover to cut the deficit to 21-6. The Rams took over on their own 43 when they recovered a fumbled snap. After Quasand Lewis picked up four yards on the first play of the series, Busch found Brandon Ryan with a ten-yard completion to put the ball on the Lions' 44. Two rushes from Lewis netted 15 yards and Kenny Jones picked up another yard on a first down carry from the NCC 28. On the next play, Busch hit Mark Meehan in stride over the middle with a short pass that Meehan took to the end zone for a touchdown.

The Lions threatened on the ensuing kickoff, going from their own 34 to the Fordham 13 with the big play a 17-yard gain from Hanif Kendrick to put the ball on the Fordham 13. But NCC was whistled for consecutive penalties, moving the ball back to the 28 as time expired.

Lewis rushed 22 times for 90 yards for the Rams while Busch completed eight of 14 passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. Meehan led all Fordham receivers with four catches for 48 yards while Ryan had three receptions for 38 yards.

Defensively, Frank Curry led the Rams with eight total tackles, six solo, including one sack, while Kennith Thompson record four stops, two solo.

For the Lions, Jonas Rousseau made six tackles, five solo, while Hugh DeImperio also notched six stops, four solo.
