Men's Soccer Hosts Hofstra In First Exhibition Game Of 2007

Bronx, N.Y. - After postponing their exhibition contest last night, the Fordham Rams and Hofstra Pride finally met up today on Jack Coffey Field, playing three 30-minute periods.

In a misty rain that stuck around for most of the game, Hofstra's Johannes Grahn scored twice in the second period, as the Pride went on to a 3-0 win.

In the first period, not much offense was had as each team registered two shots with Fordham's Patrick Murray having the best opportunity as he sailed a shot just over the crossbar.

In the second period, Grahn scored his first of two tallies, as he headed home a pass from Rob Youhill in the 33rd minute. Fordham almost immediately tied the game, as Kevin Meyer was sent in on net, but James Winters came up with the save for Hofstra.

Grahn struck again 17 minutes later, as he got around Fordham goalkeeper Dan Hajducky put home a shot into the open net.

Hofstra closed out the scoring in the third period, as Demont Mitchell scored with under two minutes left in the game.

Hofstra outshot Fordham, 9-8, on the afternoon. Murray, Meyer, and Einar Oddsson led the Fordham offense with two shots apiece. In net, Justin Burse, Hajucky, and Jon Bratincevic each played a period in net, with Hajducky making two saves, and Bratincevic making one.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on August 26th, as they play their final exhibition game at Columbia, starting at 8:00 PM.
