Bronx, N.Y. - Former Fordham University catcher John Mollicone (Cranston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) was named to the 2007 All-Gotham Baseball Team, as selected by Gotham Baseball Magazine, it was announced over the weekend.
Mollicone, who was selected at the top of the 27th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was at the heart of Fordham's run to the Atlantic 10 Championship game for the first time since 1998.
Mollicone had a superb senior season and was named team MVP, setting career-highs in most offensive categories. He hit .325 this season with 14 doubles, nine home runs, and 53 RBI. He became just the fourth Ram ever to have over 50 RBI in a single season.
In four seasons at Fordham, Mollicone was a .293 hitter with 182 hits, 45 doubles, 13 home runs, and 124 RBI. He ranks tied for fourth in career doubles at Fordham, and eighth in RBI.
Currently, Mollicone is playing with the Princeton Devil Rays of the Appachalain League (Rookie Class), where he has played in 14 games, hitting .250 with a home run and three RBI.
