Bronx, N.Y. - After reaching the 2007 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship game, most of the returning Fordham Rams continue playing ball in summer leagues, fine tuning their skills in preparation for next season.
A number of Fordham players had plenty of highlights through the summer accolades. Here are a few of their exploits:
Senior Eric Reese completed a full season in the prestigious Cape Cod League, playing for the Orleans Cardinals. Reese split time between the outfield and his natural second base position. In 32 games, he hit .216 with 11 runs scored, a pair of triples, and four RBI. The Cardinals finished the year with a 23-20 record in the Cape.
Junior John Kahn was an offensive powerhouse for the Metro NY Cadets of the ACBL. Kahn led the team with a .368 batting average, 25 runs scored, 42 hits, six doubles, and 15 stolen bases. He was named to the ACBL All-Star game and helped the Cadets win the Kaiser Division of the ACBL.
A trio of Rams suited up for the Danbury Westerners of the NECBL, led by junior Bobby DiNardo. DiNardo hit .257 over the summer with eight doubles, two home runs, and 26 RBI, and was named to the NECBL All-Star Game.
In addition, the Davis brothers, senior Tom and sophomore Andrew, were among the pitching staff for the Westerners. Tom Davis started all seven games he appeared in, recording a 2-3 record in 43.2 innings pitched and 32 strikeouts. Andrew Davis made eight appearances, including two starts. He finished with a 2-2 mark and a 3.33 ERA in 24.1 innings. He finished with 12 strikeouts and a .239 opponent batting average.
