FORDHAM'S JENNIFER DANIELS, STACIA KROETZ, CAROLINE GIBBONS & JENNIFER ROUSSIL NAMED 2007 CRCA NATIONAL SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University seniors Jennifer Roussil (Gaithersburg, MD/Georgetown Visitation) and Stacia Kroetz (Hudson, NY/Taconic Hills) along with sophomores Jennifer Daniels (White Plains, NY/Maria Regina) and Caroline Gibbons (College Point, NY/Dominican Academy) were named Mid-Atlantic Region National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) it was announced on Tuesday.

The award recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher that competed in 75 percent of her team's 2007 spring races. Also, the student-athletes must be upperclassmen (sophomore, junior or senior) in terms of eligibility and their head coaches must be good standing members of the CRCA. A total of 493 student-athletes from 102 different schools were honored for their efforts during the 2007 season.

Kroetz, an Accounting major, Roussil, an International Political Economy major, and Daniels, a Mathematics major, are members of the Fordham Varsity 8, which successfully defended its Spring Metropolitan title at the Orchard Beach Lagoon on April 28th. The Varsity 8 also won the Fall Metropolitan title and the Manhattan Invitational gold medal, as well as finishing third at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship, fifth at the Murphy Cup and seventh in the Grand Final at the Dad Vail Regatta.

Gibbons, an American Studies major, rowed with the Junior Varsity 4 and 8 and the Varsity 4 in 2006-07, helping the Varsity 4 to the gold medal at the Manhattan Invitational, the Junior Varsity 4 to a win at the Fall Metropolitan Championships and the junior varsity 8 to a fourth-place showing at the Murphy Cup.

This marks the third straight year in which Roussil was named a CECA National Scholar-Athlete and the second for Kroetz. Roussil and Kroetz have also been honored academically in the past as each was admitted to Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society in the spring of 2006.

Roussil, who is serving as president of Alpha Sigma Nu, was also recently inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, the oldest undergraduate honors organization in the United States. They both were also named Academic All-Atlantic 10 this spring, the third straight year Roussil was honored by the A-10.
