TASHA JOHNSTON NAMED WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL MVP

May 3, 2007

Bronx, N.Y. - The 73rd annual Block F Awards dinner was held last night at the Villa Barone Manor, honoring Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments in the 2006-07 academic year.

Among those honored was Tasha Johnston (Hesperia, Calif./Hesperia) who was named Most Valuable Player of the women's volleyball squad.

Johnston, a senior outside hitter, earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors last fall, helping the Rams to their first Atlantic 10 championship appearance. Serving as a team captain, she recorded 485 kills and over 421 digs, both career-highs, and became only the second Ram to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career, closing out her career as the Rams' career leader in games (447) and matches (127) played.

The volleyball team finished the year with a 21-15 overall record, 6-7 in the Atlantic 10. The 21 wins ties a team record, set in 1990, and matched in 1991.
