Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University junior second baseman Eric Reese (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 for baseball in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches it was announced by the league. Additionally, senior third baseman Jordan Lert (Westport, Conn./Staples) and junior pitcher Tom Davis (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) were named to the Second Team.
Reese, a three-year starter, is hitting a team-high .354 (73-206) with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs and 31 RBI along with 11 stolen bases. He leads the team in hits, runs (53) and has a team-best 23 multi-hit games. Reese set career high in average, hits, runs, home runs, RBI and stolen bases while becoming just the second player in school history to record 70 hits and score 50 runs in a season. His 53 runs scored on the year is the eighth best total in school history while his 73 hits is the fourth best. In Atlantic 10 action, Reese hit a team-best .390 (41-105) with four doubles, two home runs and 20 RBI.
In the latest Atlantic 10 rankings, Reese is fifth in runs scored, sixth in on base percentage (.448), and eighth in hits and batting average. Defensively, he is eighth in assists with 151.
Lert, a four-year starter, is currently hitting .291 (59-203) with 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 40 RBI, while he has also swiped four bases. He set career highs for batting average, runs (59), hits, home runs and RBI in 2007. Lert is tied for the team lead with his 11 doubles and is also tied for the team lead with 12 multi-RBI games. In Atlantic 10 play, Lert hit .288 (32-111) with five doubles, one home run and 21 RBI.
Over his career, Lert has compiled a .281 batting average (196-698) with 35 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 112 RBI in 197 career games. In the final weekend of the regular season, he broke the school record for games played (the former record was 196 set by Tim Boyle from 2002-05) while he currently is second in career at bats and ninth in both hits and doubles.
Davis, who rebounded from an off-year in 2006, went 8-2 on the year with a 2.98 ERA, striking out 52 batters while walking only 26 in 84.2 innings of work. He tied for the team lead in wins and starts (13) while holding opponents to a .240 batting average. Davis set personal bests in wins, ERA and strikeouts while posting the top ERA among the staff's starters. On the year, he twice struck out ten in a game, the first on March 18th in 5-1 win over Manhattan College and the second in his first Atlantic 10 start of the year, an 8-2 victory at George Washington on March 25th. In Atlantic 10 games, Davis went 6-2 with a 2.71 ERA, fanning 36 batters in 63 innings.
In the latest Atlantic 10 statistics, Davis is tied for second in wins, tied for third in pickoffs (4) and fifth in the league in ERA and opponent batting average.
The Rams closed out the regular season with a ten-game winning streak to bring their overall record to 33-20 while Fordham finished with a 19-8 record in the Atlantic 10. The 19 conference wins are the most for the Rams since they joined the Atlantic 10 in 1996, surpassing the 17 wins turned in by the 2005 squad. Fordham finished in second place in the league, earning the Rams a first round bye at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held at First Third Field in Dayton, Ohio from May 23-26. The Rams will open play on Thursday as they face the winner of Wednesday's Richmond-St. Bonaventure game at 3:30 p.m.
