FORDHAM'S JOHN MOLLICONE NAMED ATLANTIC 10 BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University senior catcher John Mollicone (Cranston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) was named Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending May 6th it was announced today. This is the second Player of the Week honor this year for Mollicone, who was also named player of the Week on March 19th.

Mollicone led the Rams to a 2-2 week as Fordham took two of three Atlantic 10 games from Temple over the weekend and suffered a loss to Manhattan during the week. He capped his week with a perfect 5-for-5 game with a double and five RBI in a 21-5 win over Temple on Sunday.

Mollicone also had a pair of hits in the other two contests with Temple, going 2-for-4 with a home run in the first game, a 9-8 loss, and he went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the second game of the series, a 6-5 Fordham win.

On the week, Mollicone hit .588 (10-17) with three doubles, one home run and nine RBI, while in Atlantic 10 play he was 9-12 (.750) and he threw out two of three would-be base stealers. He has now hit safely in his last ten games, raising his average from .307 to .357 over that span.

On the year, Mollicone is hitting a team-high .357 (61-171) with ten doubles, eight home runs and 47 RBI. He leads the team in home runs and RBI and is tied for the team lead in doubles. Mollicone is ranked eighth in the Atlantic 10 in hitting and ninth in both hits and home runs.

The Rams, who are currently 25-20 overall, 13-8 in the Atlantic 10, will next be in action on Friday night, May 11th as they host the University of Rhode Island in the first game of a three-game Atlantic 10 series beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Houlihan Park.
