Bronx, N.Y. - Incoming Fordham women's basketball recruit Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) garnered more postseason accolades this month. She was named to the New York Daily News All-City First Team and First Team All-Staten Island. These accolades add to an already impressive list for Mahoney, who has already received the 2006-07 Class A Player of the Year award and the 2007 Jaques Award as Staten Island's Most Outstanding Player.
She is the first Fordham recruit since Annie DeRoy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) in 2000 to earn All-City honors from The Daily News.
"Megan Mahoney is a competitor! Her achievements are indicative of her dedication, passion and love for basketball", said Fordham head coach Cathy Andruzzi. "She will be a great addition to our Fordham basketball family. We are very proud of her!"
Mahoney had an outstanding senior campaign, averaging 17.7 points per game, guiding St. Peter's to a 24-4 record and the Archdiocesan and Catholic state finals. She also topped 1,000 points for her career this season, while adding 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Mahoney's senior campaign followed a superb junior year, as a member of the 2005-06 CHSAA Class A State and City Champions as well as the New York State Federation Class A Champions. She averaged 18.3 points that season to go along 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals a game at St. Peter's. She received the 2006 Jaques Award and was an All-State selection for the second time. An All-Star selection by The Daily News, The Staten Island Advance, and the MSG Network, she was the leading scorer and league MVP for the SICHSAA in 2005-06, and was named MVP of the NYS Federation Class A Championship game.
Away from the court, she is a member of the St. Peter's chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of the honor roll.
Mahoney is one of eight incoming Fordham women's basketball recruits for the 2007-08 season, joining forward Alexandria Zamora (Apopka, Fla./Bishop Moore HS), guard Kyara Weekes (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS), guard Kristina Bell (West Bloomfield, Mich./Mercy HS), guard Raina Spencer (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville HS), forward Takita Earl (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central HS/Rend Lake College), forward/center Kassie Humphries (Frankton, Ind./Franklin Jr./Sr. HS/Rend Lake College), and center Carissa Morrill (Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan HS/Independence CC).
