FORDHAM ANNOUNCES 2007 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

(March 9, 2007) ?C Six home contests, including the annual Liberty Cup match-up with Columbia University, along with six Patriot League games, highlight the 2007 Fordham University football schedule which was released today. The Rams open their 108th varsity football season on Saturday, September 1st as they venture up to Kingston, Rhode Island to face the University of Rhode out of the Colonial Athletic Association (formally the Atlantic 10 Football Conference). Fordham will then return to the friendly confines of Jack Coffey Field for the next three weeks, hosting the University at Albany on September 8th, Columbia University in the annual battle for the Liberty Cup on September 15th and the University of Dayton for Homecoming on September 22nd, in the first match-up between the two schools since 1979. The Rams take to the road on September 29th to open their Patriot League schedule as they pay a visit to Hamilton, New York to face Colgate University before returning home to take on Lehigh University in a league contest on Jack Coffey Field on October 6th. Fordham will then return to the road for its next two Patriot League games, traveling to Washington, DC to face Georgetown University on October 13th in the 53rd meeting between the two schools, the most for the Rams against any opponent, and then heading out to Easton, Pennsylvania to face three-time defending league champions, Lafayette College, on October 20th. The Rams will close out their non-conference slate with a game at Marist on October 27th before hosting the Holy Cross Crusaders on Jack Coffey Field in the annual battle for the Ram-Crusader Cup on November 3rd. Following an open week, Fordham will close out its 2007 season by hosting the Bucknell University Bison on Jack Coffey Field on November 17th. The Rams will be led by head coach Tom Masella, who enters his second season at Fordham after leading Central Connecticut State University to back-to-back Northeast Conference championships in 2004 and 2005, attempts to improve on last year??s 3-8 record, a season in which 17 true freshman saw significant playing time, including 12 who were listed on the two-deep. Last fall, three Rams were named All-Patriot League led by junior All-American punter Benjamin Dato, who led the Patriot League and was third in the NCAA I-AA with a 44.6 punting average in 2006. Senior linebacker Marcus Taylor also received All-American and First Team All-Patriot League accolades in 2006 as he led the Rams in total tackles while senior defensive lineman Jay Edwards was named Second Team All-League.
