(March 26, 2007) - Fordham University sophomore infielder Jessica Weckenman (Richboro, PA/Council Rock North) and senior pitcher Sara Kinney (Dripping Springs, TX/Drippping Springs) earned Atlantic 10 Softball honors this week it was announced today. Weckenman was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, while Kinney earned Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week. This is Weckenman's first career weekly award, while it is the eighth Pitcher of the Week honor for Kinney. Both players had outstanding weekend's for Fordham, as they Rams opened conference play with a 4-0 record and ran their current win streak to seven games. Weckenman hit .500 (5-for-10) for the weekend, posting a triple, double, and three RBI. She had a pair of multi-hit games, including a 2-for-2 performance with a pair of runs scored and two RBI in a win over La Salle. She currently leads the team with a .416 batting average, good for fifth in the Atlantic 10, while leading the league with 11 doubles. Kinney posted a 1.40 ERA in 15 innings pitched this weekend for Fordham. She allowed only five hits in those 15 innings, while posting 23 strikeouts. She also tied her own school record with 13 strikeouts in a complete game win over La Salle. On the season, Kinney has 85 strikeouts, good for third in the Atlantic 10, while being 10th in ERA. The Fordham Softball team is currently 16-12 overall, 4-0 in the Atlantic 10, and will next be in action on Tuesday, March 27th, as they host Wagner for a doubleheader at Bahoshy Field, beginning at 3:30 PM.
