(February 14, 2007) ?C Nine new members will be inducted into the Fordham University Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, February 18th prior to the Fordham-Duquesne men??s basketball game.
The 2007 Hall of Famer class includes Robert Aylmer ??92 (Baseball), Susan Amelio Voltz ??83 (Swimming), Denise Corrado ??97 (Soccer), Aaron Dougherty ??95 (Football), Dan Gallagher (Baseball Coach), Mark Gibbons ??96 and Mike Lemke ??96 (Rowing), Tom Gleason ??79 (Swimming) and Bevon Robin ??01 (Basketball).
The day begins with a special Hall of Fame mass in the University Church beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the Hall of Fame Brunch will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the McGinley Center Ballroom. Following the brunch, the new Hall of Famers will attend the basketball game, where they will be recognized at halftime.
Tom Gleason, one of the most prolific male swimmers in Fordham University history, is a 1979 graduate of the College of Business Administration.
Gleason began his career qualifying for the Metropolitan and Eastern Championships as a freshman and then qualified for the NCAA Championships as a sophomore.
A team captain for both his junior and senior seasons, Gleason set the school 100 butterfly record as a junior and then reset that record as a senior, leading the Rams to an undefeated season as a senior.
Gleason is also a member of the school-record setting 400 free relay, a record which still stands today, as he joins the other three members of that 1979 relay in the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the 400 and 800 freestyle relays and the medley relay, all school-recording setting squads.
As a senior, Gleason also served as the captain of the Fordham water polo team.
Following graduation, Gleason continued to compete in swimming and water polo with the NYAC and he was inducted into the Rhode Island Swimming Hall of Fame.
A native of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and a graduate of La Salle Academy in Providence, Gleason currently resides in Middletown, Rhode Island with his wife, Adelaide G. Nardone, M.D., a 1979 graduate of Fordham College. They are the parents of three children: Thomas, who is a sophomore at Fordham, Augusta and Luke. He is employed as a Sales Executive for the Hewlett-Packard Company.
