FORDHAM TO INDUCT NINE INTO ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME ON SUNDAY

(February 14, 2007) ?C Nine new members will be inducted into the Fordham University Athletic Hall of Fame on Sunday, February 18th prior to the Fordham-Duquesne men??s basketball game. The 2007 Hall of Famer class includes Robert Aylmer ??92 (Baseball), Susan Amelio Voltz ??83 (Swimming), Denise Corrado ??97 (Soccer), Aaron Dougherty ??95 (Football), Dan Gallagher (Baseball Coach), Mark Gibbons ??96 and Mike Lemke ??96 (Rowing), Tom Gleason ??79 (Swimming) and Bevon Robin ??01 (Basketball). The day begins with a special Hall of Fame mass in the University Church beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the Hall of Fame Brunch will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the McGinley Center Ballroom. Following the brunch, the new Hall of Famers will attend the basketball game, where they will be recognized at halftime. Susan Amelio Voltz, a 1983 graduate of the College of Business Administration, was a four-year member of the swimming team, helping the Rams to four straight winning seasons from 1979-83. Amelio Voltz set numerous school records that were not broken until the early 1990??s and she won the Claire Hobbs Award as the Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 1981. Named team Most Valuable Player her first three years, Amelio Voltz qualified for several league and state championships during that time. During his first three years at Fordham, she competed at the AIAW Division II National Championships, receiving AIAW All-America honors in the 100 backstroke as a junior in 1982. As a senior, the AIAW was incorporated into the NCAA as Amelio Voltz qualified for the NCAA Eastern Championships and was part of the 200 and 400 Free Relay teams that set Fordham school records at the event. In the classroom, she won the Gold Medal of Economics in 1983. Following graduation, Amelio Voltz ran in three New York City Marathons. A native of West Hempstead, New York and a graduate of Maria Regina High School, Amelio Voltz resides in Fairfield, Connecticut with her husband, Kent, and their two children, Kelly and Luke. Recently retired as a full-time Director and Portfolio Manager for MBIA Asset Management, she is currently a full-time mother and is employed part-time as a consultant in Asset Management.
