(February 12, 2007) - Fordham University swimmers and divers swept the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week awards with junior divers Marisa Colangelo (Sharon, MA/Ursuline) and Donato Callara (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) being named Performers of the Week and freshmen Caitlin Napoli (Hauppauge, NY/St. Anthony??s) and Justin Coombs (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) selected as Rookies of the Week, for the week ending February 10th. This is the first weekly award this year for Colangelo and Callara while Napoli picks up her fourth weekly award of the season, and Coombs grabs his second.
The Rams wrapped up their dual meet season this past week as the men??s and women??s squads defeated St. Francis (NY) College with men winning, 163-34, while the women were victorious by a 155-30 score.
In the meet, Colangelo scored 267.23 points for six dives in winning the one meter diving competition, breaking the former school record of 265.20 set by Mary Beth Graham in 1994. She also won the three meter event, scoring 270.68 points.
Napoli won two events against St. Francis to earn her award, taking the 100 backstroke (59.51) and 200 IM (2:09.43).
On the men??s side, Callara won the one meter (299.55) and three meter (329.55) diving competitions, both with season-high scores, while Combs won the 100 backstroke against St. Francis in a season-best time of 56.21 while also competing as a member of two winning relay teams, the 200 medley relay (1:40.04) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:17.27).
The Rams will next be in action as they travel to Buffalo for the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championships from February 21-24.
