Track & Field Hosts 2007 Fordham Season Opener

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham track & field team got their winter season off to a solid start in the 2007 Fordham Season Opener, hosted in the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse, as Fordham posted seven event wins.

The day started with junior Matt DiBuono winning the weight throw event with a toss of 57' 5". He then finished second in the shot put (46' 9"), but junior teammate Chris Kozlowski just edged him in the event with a throw of 47' 3 ½".

In the track events, junior Brigid Moriarty won the 5000 meter event in a time of 18:45.2, while junior Jacqueline Prevete was third in the event (18:57.5).

Senior Melissa Salerno won the mile run in 5:09.1, with senior Matt Lowenthal taking the 1000 meter event in 2:30.5. Senior Tom Finnerty capped the individual event wins by taking the 3000 meters in 8:55.9.

The women's 4x800 relay was the final event winner, taking the race in a time of 9:53.8.

Other top performers were Christine Willeford (4th in the 200m - 27.7), Steve D'Ambrosio (2nd in the 800m - 2:00.0), Ryan Serkes (3rd in the 800m - 2:00.4), Clifton Hilario (2nd in the 500m - 1:07.5), Matt Flynn (3rd in the 5000m - 16:47.4), Jeana Fletcher (2nd in the 60m H - 9.8; 3rd in the shot put - 35' 1"), Brian Mulkeen (2nd in the weight throw - 50' 6 ¼") and Catherine Groene (4th in the triple jump - 33' 9 ½").

The Fordham track & field team will be back in action on Friday, December 14th, when they host the Christmas Classic at the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse, beginning at 3:00 PM.
