Fordham Sweeps Weekly Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Awards

Philadelphia, Pa. - Fordham University indoor track and field athletes swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards with juniors Matt DiBuono (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep) and Jeana Fletcher (Newark, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) earning Men's and Women's Performer of the Week, respectively, and freshmen Christopher Lyons (Roslyn Heights, N.Y./Chaminade) and Sherilyn Groeninger (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) receiving Men's and Women's Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.

Last Friday night Fordham hosted the Christmas Classic in the Lombardi Center Fieldhouse where DiBuono broke his own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 61' 6 ¼", bettering his IC4A qualifying mark from a week earlier, to earn his second straight weekly award. He bettered his previous school record of 61' 0", set in his freshman season at the NYU Last Chance Invitational on February 24, 2006. DiBuono also won the shot put competition at the Christmas Classic with a personal best throw of 47' 5".

Fletcher captured first in three events at the Christmas Classic, winning the long jump (15' 4"), high jump (5' 3"), and the shot put (38' ¼"). She has Fordham's best long jump, high jump and shot put performance on the year.

Lyons won the 200m at the Fordham Christmas Classic in a time of 23.84 seconds while also placing third in the 60m (7.64).

Groeninger enjoyed a successful meet by placing second in both the 60m (8.24) and 200m (27.84) at the Christmas Classic.

After three weeks off for finals and the holidays, the Fordham men's and women's indoor track and field squad will return to action on Saturday, January 11th at the 168th St. Armory in Manhattan beginning at 3:00 PM.
