Bronx, N.Y. - (Nov. 19, 2007) - The Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving squads hosted Columbia University in the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center with the men
falling to the Lions, 184-116 and the women losing by a final score of 180.5 to 99.5.
The loss is the first of the season for the Fordham women, who are now 5-1 on the year, while the men go to 4-2.
Leading the Fordham women was
Caitlin Napoli who won three events, taking first in the 100 fly (58.61), the 200 free (1:52.47) and the 500 free (5:05.08) while Christine Cosentino won the 100 back in a time of 58.84 and took second in the 50 back (27.92).
Women who placed second for the Rams included
Anne Conroy in the 1000 free (10:27.83),
Amanda Ciccone in the 50 free (24.95),
Tressa Dunn in the 100 free (53.71) and
Nicole Marshall in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.19).
Donato Callara and Ryan Coombs paced the men with a pair events wins each. Callara won both the one and three meter diving competitions with scores of 248.18 and 315.30, respectively, while Ryan Coombs won the 200 (1:42.82) and 500 freestyle (4:41.10) events.
Benjamin Otto took second on the one (240.15) and three meter boards (251.93) for Fordham while Sean Terry took second in the 50 (27.67) and 100 breaststroke (59.64) and William Colton finished second in the 100 IM (56.12).
In men's relays, the 200 freestyle relay team of Ryan Coombs, Robert Gitman, Brian Jucas and Justin Coombs won the race in a time of 1:26.86 while the 200 medley relay of Colton, Terry, Ryan Coombs and Jucas took second in a time of 1:37.29.
The Fordham men's and women's swimming and diving squads will next be in action on December 1st and 2nd as they compete at the Nutmeg Invitational at Yale University.
