Charlotte, N.C. -
A year ago, Fordham went into the Atlantic 10 Championship, following two grueling matches, and fought Saint Louis for the title, but came up one goal short.
The Rams look to play a different tune in their second try to clinch their first Atlantic 10 tile and an automatic NCAA berth, as they meet Charlotte at 1:00 PM on Sunday at Transamerica Field.
Those expecting a high scoring affair should check those thoughts, as Fordham and Charlotte were the top two defensive teams in the Atlantic 10 this season. The two teams did match-up earlier this season down in Charlotte, which ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie.
After receiving a first round bye, Fordham got to the final courtesy of an exciting semifinal match against Dayton. The Rams came from behind twice in the game for the win. After falling behind 1-0, Courtney Fedge tied the game in the 74th minute, which is how the game ended after two overtime frames. Then after falling behind 3-2 in penalty kicks, the Rams rallied to advance by a 4-3 count.
Charlotte also received a first round bye as the Atlantic 10 regular season champion. They advanced to the final after a 1-0 victory over Richmond in the first game on Friday.
