Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's soccer team was hoping to gain some momentum with a win in their final non-conference game today as the Rams prepare to open conference play on Friday. Unfortunately, the Rams ran into Adelphi University's Patrick Figueiredo who scored both of the Panthers' goals as Adelphi handed Fordham a 2-1 loss on Jack Coffey Field. With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-5-3 on the year while Adelphi goes to 1-8-2.

Figueiredo got Adelphi on the board early, putting a corner kick from Val Charalambous past Fordham keeper Dan Hajducky in the sixth minute.

The Rams got the equalizer 15 minutes later when Grant Kerr picked up a loose ball at the top of the box, dribbled to the left and got off a shot that beat onrushing Adelphi keeper Vincent Treglia to the far post for his first tally of the season.

Kerr almost gave Fordham a 2-1 lead later in the first, getting off a shot on the ground from just inside the box but Treglia came up with the save.

In the 53rd minute, Figueiredo gave Adelphi the 2-1 lead when he collected a loose ball and got off a blast from 18 yards on the ground that beat Hajducky for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Fordham put pressure on Treglia over the final 27 minutes but the Panther keeper was able to keep the Rams off the scoreboard.

With 27 minutes remaining, Kerr got off a blistering shot from the top of the box that Treglia kept out of the net with a diving save. Four minutes later, Louis Vigliotti dribbled by his defender on the right side and got off a shot from 15 yards but that scoring chance was denied by Treglia.

Figueiredo almost completed the hat trick for the Panthers in the 71st minute but his shot from 25 yards out was saved by Hajducky.

The Rams last good scoring attempt came in the final minutes of the contest when Kerr dribbled to the center of the box and ripped a shot that Treglia got his hands on and the Rams couldn't pounce on the rebound.

Treglia finished with seven saves for Adelphi, who out shot the Rams 11-9 on the day, while Hajducky recorded four saves for Fordham.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday night, October 12th, as they host the La Salle University Explorers in their Atlantic 10 opener on Jack Coffey Field at 7:30 PM. The game will be the second of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader that night as the Fordham women take on Temple University in an Atlantic 10 match-up at 5:00 PM.
