SOFTBALL EARNS PAIR OF HOME WINS OVER MANHATTAN AND C.W. POST

Sept. 23, 2007

Bronx, N.Y. - After seeing most of the play on Saturday washed out due to rain, the Fordham softball team improved to 9-0 in the fall with two wins today at Bahoshy Field.

The Rams opened the day with a 9-0 win in five innings over Manhattan College.

The offense basically came in the second inning as Fordham scored seven runs on seven hits. The key hits in the inning came from Mary Beth Puccio and Erin Fisher. After Allison Storc and Jocelyn Dearborn reached base on singles, Puccio ripped a triple down the right field line, scoring both runners. Later in the inning, Fisher hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to increase the Fordham lead to 6-0.

Fordham tacked on one more run in the inning on Storc's second hit of the inning, and then two more in the third, as the mercy rule was invoked in the fifth.

Nicole Ayres pitched the five-inning shutout, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts and no walks. At the plate, Storc was 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Allison Twarowski was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In their second game, Fordham came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat C.W. Post, 6-1.

After C.W. Post picked up an unearned run in the second, Fordham scored two runs in each of the final three innings to get the win.

Fordham picked up two runs in the fifth on an RBI-triple by Megan Waldron and a sacrifice fly by Twarowski.

After two more runs in the sixth, Melissa Andrew led off the seventh with a solo home run to right, eventually followed by an RBI-single by Dearborn.

Beckah Wiggins made that lead hold up, allowing just one unearned run on one hit over seven innings with four strikeouts. At the plate, Dearborn was 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Storc was 3-for-4.
