Binghamton, N.Y. - The Fordham softball team continued their fall season at the Bagsai College Invitational this past weekend. Fordham was declared co-champions at the Rams won all five of their games.
They were to play Cornell who also went undefeated in the final but because Cornell played 3 games to get to the final on Sunday, NCAA rules limit teams to playing only 3 games in a day. This was caused by the last set of games on Saturday being rescheduled for Sunday morning because of darkness.
Fordham is now 7-0 in the fall.
Fordham opened the tournament with a 1-0 shutout of Army in the first game on Saturday. Beckah Wiggins (four innings) and Nicole Ayres (three innings) combined for a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts and no walks. Allison Twarowski scored the lone run of the game.
Fordham followed with an 11-1 win over Marist in five innings. The Rams scored 11 runs on 14 hits in the game, lead by Allison Storc, who was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Twarowski picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on two hits. Erin Fisher and Jocelyn Dearborn each had a home run and three RBI, while Mary Beth Puccio also had a home run. Sarah Campbell also had a pair of hits and two runs scored.
Fordham completed Saturday's run with an 11-4 win over Rutgers. The Rams again pounded out 14 hits in the contest, while Rutgers managed just four. Fisher, Storc, and Samantha Pellechio each homered in the game, while Twarowski and Puccio each had three hits. Beckah Wiggins recorded the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
On Sunday, Fordham opened with a 9-2 win over Vermont. The Rams' offense continued to pound out the hits with 11 in the contest. Puccio, Fisher, Storc, and Dearborn each had two hits, with Puccio connecting for a home run. Ayres and Wiggins again combined for the win, as Ayres went the first three innings with Wiggins finishing the final four.
The Rams then took out St. Rose, 3-0, in the semifinals of the tournament. Twarowski went the distance, allowing just six hits in the game, while collecting a hit and a run scored at the plate. Fisher posted a home run and two RBI, while Puccio had two hits and an RBI.
