Fordham University senior forward Bryant Dunston (Queens, N.Y./St. John's Prep) and senior guard Marcus Stout (Southfield, Mich./Renaissance) were named 2007 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Atlantic 10 in a vote of conference coaches and media it was announced at today's Media Day at Boardwalk Hall, the site of the 2008 A-10 Championship. Dunston was named to the First Team while Stout was named to the Third Team. Additionally, Dunston and Stout were also named to the Preseason All-Defensive Team.
The coaches and media also predicted the order of finish for the 2007-08 Atlantic 10 season with Xavier the overwhelming choice as the team to beat. The Musketeers received 42 of the 59 first-place votes cast by the panel of coaches and media members.
Rhode Island garnered five first-place votes and placed second in the preseason poll followed by Saint Joseph's with seven first place votes. Fordham, which received two first place votes, was chosen to place fourth with Saint Louis, Dayton, and defending A-10 champion George Washington, rounding out the top seven.
Dunston, who was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 pick last year, averaged 14.5 ppg, second best on the team and 16th best in the Atlantic 10, along with a team-best 7.2 rpg, ninth best in the conference. He also registered a team-high 71 blocks, third in the conference, and shot 54.5% (146-268) from the field.
Over the past three years, Dunston, who has started all 91 games in his Fordham career, has accumulated 1,382 career points, good for eighth on the Fordham all-time scoring list, and 709 career rebounds, good for ninth on the school's all-time rebounding list. He is also climbing the career blocked shot list, accumulating 215 over the past three years, good for third on the all-time list.
Stout, an Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2007, averaged a team-high 15.3 ppg in 2006-07, 12th best in the Atlantic 10, while also leading the team in steals (49) and three-pointers made (74), ranking second and eighth in the conference, respectively.
Over his Fordham career, Stout has scored 1,271 points, 13th on the all-time scoring list. He also is among the all-time leaders in three-pointers made, hitting 186 in his career, good for fourth on the all-time list.
The Rams will open the 2007-08 season on Friday, November 9th, as they travel into Manhattan to face Columbia University at 7:00 PM. Fordham will open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, November 24th when the Rams host the College of Charleston in the Rose Hill Gym at 1:00 PM.
