Fordham University Announces 2007-08 Men's Basketball Schedule

Oct. 1, 2007

Bronx, N.Y. - The 2007-08 Fordham University men's basketball schedule has been released and it features a sixteen-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule and 14 home games, as well as match-ups with a pair of Big East opponents and an appearance in the 2007 CBE Classic.

The highlight of the schedule will be a pair of nationally televised games, including one on ESPN or ESPN2 when the Rams travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to face the University of Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 contest on Thursday, February 14th at 9:00 P.M. The other national appearance will be on CSTV, that occurring on Thursday, January 31st, as the Rams host the Temple Owls in the historic Rose Hill Gym at 8:00 P.M.

Fordham is also slated to appear five times on the CSTV Regional syndication package, beginning with a January 12th appearance at Xavier. The Rams will host three games from the Rose Hill Gym on the CSTV Regional syndication package, including games with Duquesne (Jan. 19th), Rhode Island (Feb. 10th) and Dayton (Mar. 1st). Additional local outlets carrying the Atlantic 10 regional basketball games will be announced prior to the season.

The Rams will also have two major road contests with Big East schools in 2007-08, traveling to Syracuse, New York, to face the Orange on November 16th and down to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., to take on Georgetown University on December 31st.

Six of Fordham's 2007-08 opponents saw postseason action last year with three teams appearing in the NCAA Tournament: Georgetown, who advanced to the Final Four, George Washington and Xavier. Three other 2007-08 opponents received bids to the NIT (Hofstra, Massachusetts and Syracuse).

Fordham's Atlantic 10 schedule includes home-and-home games with Charlotte, Duquesne and Temple as well as home dates with defending conference champions, George Washington, along with Dayton, La Salle, Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure. The Rams will also play five Atlantic 10 schools on the road in 2007-08 (Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis and Xavier). The top 12 Atlantic 10 teams will advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament that will be held in Atlantic City from March 12-15, 2008.

In non-conference play, Fordham opens the 2007-08 season with a trip into Manhattan on Friday, November 9th to face Columbia University. The Rams will then venture out to Columbia, Missouri, to participate in the 2007 O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic at the University of Missouri's Mizzou Arena. Fordham opens play on Tuesday, November 12th against Central Missouri and will then play either Missouri or Central Michigan in the regional championship or consolation game on November 13th. If Fordham wins the regional championship, the Rams will play the following week in the semifinal and championship/consolation game on November 19th and 20th at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Fordham will play six of its ten non-conference games at home this winter, hosting the College of Charleston, Robert Morris, Hofstra, New Jersey Institute of Technology, UNC-Greensboro and Binghamton. Besides Syracuse and Georgetown, the Rams will play at cross-Bronx rivals, Manhattan College.

Fordham will be led into the season by fifth-year head coach Dereck Whittenburg, who returns all five starters from last year's 18-12 team, led by senior Bryant Dunston, a 2007 Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, and senior Marcus Stout, a 2007 Honorable Mention All-Atlantic 10 selection.
