Fordham Women's Tennis Competes at ITA East Regionals

Norfolk, Va. - Member of the Fordham University women's tennis squad competed last weekend at the ITA Women's East Regionals at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University.

Competing in singles play for the Rams were junior Dominique Liguori and freshman Catherine Kellner while senior Ellenoira Featherston and sophomore Martina Featherston paired up with Liguori and Kellner, respectively, for doubles action.

In singles play, Kellner was the top performer, defeating Katrina Elder-Bush of Rutgers in the round of 128 in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-6, and then upending West Virginia's Stacey Percival in the round of 64, also in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3. Kellner's run at the title came to an end in the round of 32 when she fell to Magdalena Bresson in three sets. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Kellner came back to force a third set with a 6-1 win in the second set. But in the third set, Kellner fell 7-5.

Liguori, who entered play seeded 29th, fell in the round of 64 to Binghamton's Anna Edelman, 7-5 and 6-4.

In doubles action, Liguori and Ellenoira Featherston took their first round match, defeating Columbia's Lauren Shearer and Stephanie Zilberman, 8-4, before falling in the round of 32 to 14th-seeded Lauren Burns and Vera Petrashevich of VCU, 8-6.

Kellner and Martina Featherston lost in the doubles qualifying round to William & Mary's Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and Lauren Sabacinski, 8-1.

The Rams will close out the fall season on Saturday, October 27th, as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face Marist College at 11:00 AM.
