Bronx, N.Y. - Coming into tonight's regular season finale, not many would have given the young Fordham Rams a chance to hang around with an experienced 12th ranked St. Francis College team. Much like the other young Fordham teams making waves this year, the water polo Rams hung right with the Terriers, down just one goal with five minutes left in the game, keeping their upset hopes alive.
The Terriers though scored the final five goals of the game to earn a 15-9 victory over Fordham. Fordham finishes their regular season schedule with a 10-12 record, 2-5 in the CWPA Northern Division, while St. Francis improves to 15-5 overall, 7-0 in the conference.
St. Francis opened the game with a 4-1 lead after the first period, as Boris Plavsic had three of the four tallies.
The Terriers kept their three-goal lead through two periods as each team netted two goals. Fordham's Taylor Landesman, playing in his final home game, had both of the Rams' tallies in the period.
St. Francis then led 10-6 heading into the final period, but Fordham would not go away, as Alex Powell scored three of his six goals in the first three minutes of the fourth period to get Fordham to within one, 10-9.
The Terriers followed with the final five goals of the game, as Nemanja Pucarevic had three of those goals.
For Fordham, Powell scored a season-high six goals on nine shots, while Taylor Landesman had two tallies. Andrew Dentinger had the final goal and added an assist for Fordham. In net, Timmy Will posted nine saves, five steals, and an assists.
St. Francis was led by Boris Plavsic with four goals, while Nemanja Pucarevic had three goals. Botond Szalma, Pedja Predin, and and Filip Kisdobranski had two goals each. In net, Nikola Djuric made five saves, while Louis Hamwey came into the game in the fourth, making one save.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on November 3-4, as they participate in the CWPA Northern Division playoffs, held in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
