Bronx, N.Y. - After scoring four goals in their 2007 Atlantic 10 opener against La Salle, the Fordham University men's soccer squad was hoping for a little of that same offensive output in their second conference game of the season. But despite out shooting Xavier University, 13-8, on the night the Rams came up with a blank on the scoreboard, falling to the Musketeers, 1-0, on Jack Coffey Field. With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-6-3 overall, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while Xavier improves to 5-8 overall, 1-2 in the conference.
Andy Dimbi provided the game's lone goal for Xavier, pouncing on a loose ball inside the Fordham box and one-timing a blast from 15 yards into an open net for his first collegiate goal in the 61st minute.
The Rams had a chance to tie the game less than a minute later as John Pardini got his head on a Fordham free kick but the ball went just wide of the goal.
Grant Kerr almost found the equalizer for the Rams with eight minutes left, getting off a blast from 25 yards that banged off the far post, and seconds later, Pardini headed a corner kick just over the cross bar.
Louis Vigliotti had the last good scoring chance for the Rams when he broke down the right side and got off a blistering shot from 25 yards that went just over the cross bar with eight minutes remaining.
Both teams had scoring chances over the first few minutes of the game with Fordham keeper Dan Hajducky making a save of a Brandon Bucher header off a cross in the first minute of the game and Sam Acheampong getting off a shot a little later that Xavier net minder Adam Sokolowski was able to stop.
Sokolowski made four saves in net for Xavier to record his third shut out of the year while Hajducky made two saves in the Fordham net.
The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, October 21st, as they host the University of Dayton Flyers in an Atlantic 10 match on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 PM.
