Fordham University freshman running back Xavier Martin (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week it was announced today. This marks the second Rookie of the Week honor for Martin, who also received the award following the Columbia game on September 17th.
In Fordham's 38-31 Patriot League win at Georgetown University on Saturday, Martin rushed 22 times for 119 yards and one touchdown while also returning two kickoffs for 29 yards. The game was the second 100-yard rushing day on the year for Martin, who gained 157 yards on 25 carries with three touchdowns in the Columbia win on September 15th.
Martin and senior running back Jonte Coven, who rushed for a career-high 152 yards in the Georgetown game, each gained over 100 yards rushing last Saturday, marking the second time this season, and the eighth time overall, that Fordham had two running back surpass the 100-yard mark in a game.
On the year, Martin has rushed 78 times for 392 yards (5.0 yards/carry) with five touchdowns while also returning 10 kickoffs for 201 yards (20.1 yards/return).
The Rams (5-2, 3-0) will next be in action on Saturday, October 20th, as they travel to Easton, Pennsylvania, to face Lafayette College, the defending Patriot League champions, at 1:00 PM.
