WATER POLO TAKES OUT QUEENS COLLEGE IN CONFERENCE OPENER

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham's Alex Powell scored a season-high five goals, while Todd Conway netted four, as the Fordham water polo team opened conference play with an 18-7 victory over Queens College at the Messmore Aquatic Center.

With the win, Fordham improved to 9-7 overall, 1-0 in the Northern Division, while Queens falls to 2-17 on the year, 1-4 in the conference.

Fordham opened the game with a 4-2 advantage after the first period, as Powell scored twice with Conway and Brian Jucas each scoring once.

After Queens closed the gap to 4-3 early in the second, Fordham reeled off four of the next five goals to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.

The Rams then took advantage over a short bench by Queens College, scoring 10 times over the final two frames for the win, capped by a blind backhand goal by Powell with under a minute remaining.

Besides Powell and Conway, Fordham's Ryan Hultman, Jakob Muller, and Brian Jucas each had two goals, while Paul Shrewsbury, Luke Forand, and Andrew Dentinger each had a goal and two assists. In net, Timmy Will posted ten saves and one steal.

For Queens, Adam Phillipe, Gus Cordovil, Tyson Freen each had two goals with Travis Martin having the final tally. In net, Kory Wilson made three saves.

The Fordham water polo team will now hit the road, as they travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts for three matches over the weekend. The Rams will meet Brown on Friday, October 12th at 8:30 PM, and then face Harvard and MIT on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM, respectively.
