Fordham University sophomore quarterback John Skelton (El Paso, Tex./Burges) was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week it was announced today. He becomes the fourth Ram to earn Player of the Week honors in 2007, joining Isiejah Allen and Matt Loucks, who were each named Defensive Players of the Week earlier this fall, and Xavier Martin, who earned Rookie of the Week honors.
In Fordham's 34-31 Patriot League win over Colgate University in Hamilton on Saturday, Skelton completed 17 of 29 passes for 217 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He also was Fordham's leading rusher on the day, carrying 14 times for 69 net yards and one score.
Fordham trailed 24-13 at the half when Skelton led the Rams on three scoring drives in the third quarter, capping the scoring blitz with a 15-yard touchdown rush with 2:10 remaining in the quarter, to put Fordham up 34-24.
On the year, Skelton has completed 86 of 169 passes for 1,012 yards and nine touchdowns while also rushing for 143 yards and one score on 44 carries.
The Rams (3-2, 1-0) will next be in action on Saturday, October 13th, as they host the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in a Patriot League contest on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 PM.
