(January 8, 2007) ?C Fordham University senior Kerstin Greene (Frankfurt, Germany/Carl Von Weinberg) and freshman Sam Whitney (Danvers, MA/St. Johns Prep) were honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference today with Greene being named Female Performer of the Week and Whitney being named Male Rookie of the Week for indoor track & field. This is the second weekly award for Greene this season, and the seventh of her career, while Whitney picks up the first award of his collegiate career.
Last Saturday, the Rams hosted the Fordham Invitational at the 168th Street Armory/Track & Field Center where the Rams had a solid overall team performance, placing fifth out of 14 teams on the men??s side and sixth out of 12 teams on the women??s side.
Highlighting the evening for the Rams was Greene, who won the high jump competition with a leap of 5?? 7??, which also qualifies her for the ECAC Championships later this season. She also placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.24 seconds, after qualifying first in the preliminaries in 9.04, and ran a leg of the fifth-place 4x400m relay (4:05.79).
Whitney helped the men??s squad to the fifth-place finish, taking fourth in the high jump at the Fordham Invitational with a personal best jump of 6?? 3.25??. He also placed ninth in the 200m dash (23.26) and 18th in the 60m dash (7.57).
The Fordham University men??s and women??s indoor track and field squads will next be in action on Friday, January 12th, as they compete in the NYU Gotham Cup at the 168th Street Armory/Track & Field Center.
