WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SET TO HOST PAIR OF FORDHAM HOOPS CAMPAIGN EVENTS

(January 17, 2007) ?C The Fordham women??s basketball team will host the next two Fordham Hoops Campaign events next weekend as a part of their home games against St. Bonaventure and Richmond. On January 26th, Fordham will have National Women & Girls in Sports Day in conjunction with their Atlantic 10 contest against St. Bonaventure University at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym. This is the 21st anniversary of National Women & Girls in Sports Day, which began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Hyman died of Marfan??s Syndrome in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan. Since that time, the Day has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports. All girls in attendance will receive a certificate of participation in the event, while after the game, there will be an autograph session with the women??s basketball team. On January 28th, the Rams will welcome back their alumni on Sunday afternoon, as Fordham will meet the University of Richmond at 1:00 PM. All former women??s basketball players in attendance will be acknowledged at halftime of the game, while after the game, there will be a post-game reception at Dagger John??s Restaurant in the McGinley Center. Any alumni who have yet to RSVP for the event should contact Sheila Muirragui at 718-817-4241 or at muirragui@fordham.edu. These events are the fourth and fifth of seven events for the Fordham Hoops Campaign, following the Faculty and Staff Reception prior to the Yale Game, the Fordham women??s basketball Christmas toy drive, which benefited the Bronx Chapter of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, and Rams School Day, where over 1,300 school children were in attendance, breaking the Fordham women??s basketball attendance record. Future Fordham Hoops Campaign events that are still ahead include Pack the House/CYO Day on February 17th for the nationally televised game on CSTV, and Senior Day/Fan Appreciation Day on February 25th.
