FORDHAM??S TASHA JOHNSTON NAMED ATLANTIC 10 VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

(September 5, 2006) - Fordham University senior Tasha Johnston (Hesperia, CA/Hesperia) was named Atlantic 10 Volleyball Player of the Week for games through September 3rd. This is Johnston's second career Atlantic 10 honor, having been named Rookie of the Week once as a freshman. Johnston, one of the team captains this season, has had an outstanding start to 2006, garnering all-tournament honors in the first two tournaments of the season. She averaged 3.88 kills and 3.52 digs over the first two weekends of the season to go along with a .295 hitting percentage, helping Fordham to a 5-2 start. Johnston has four double-doubles in seven matches this season, while recording double-digit kills in every match thus far. In addition, she has four matches of hitting .318 or better, including a .522 performance against Niagara (13-1-23). She also notched the first two 20-kill performances of her Fordham career, posting a career-high 21 kills against Central Arkansas to go with 16 digs at the NAU Invitational, while having 20 kills and 16 digs against Canisius at the Western New York Invitational. Johnston and the rest of the Fordham Volleyball team (5-2) will next be in action this weekend, as they compete at the Seton Hall Invtiational, September 8-9, where they will take on Seton Hall, Manhattan, and Wagner.
