(September 26, 2006) ?C The 2006 Fordham University women??s soccer team, thanks to a perfect week, have moved into the Soccerbuzz.com Northeast Regional rankings as the Rams are currently ranked 13th in the region.
Fordham started the perfect week with a 3-0 win over cross-Bronx rivals, Manhattan College, who is ranked right behind the Rams in the region at 14. Fordham then defeated Lafayette College, 4-2, on Sunday and now stand at 6-3 on the year.
Leading the Rams on the week were sophomore forward Katie Sanchez and freshman forward Brittany Hogan, who were named Atlantic 10 Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The award was the second straight for Sanchez while Hogan received her first conference honor.
This is the third straight week a Ram has been named A-10 Player of the Week, and is the fourth weekly honor for Sanchez in her career.
Sanchez continued her stellar play with two goals and two assists over the weekend, scoring what proved to be the game-winner against Manhattan, while also scoring once and assisting on two others against Lafayette. She has now scored in each of her last four games, while leading the team with six goals and 14 points.
Hogan came up big on Sunday against Lafayette, assisting on the game-tying goal, and then netting the game-winner, the first tally of her collegiate career.
The Fordham Women's Soccer team (6-3) will open Atlantic 10 conference play by hosting St. Bonaventure on Jack Coffey Field on Saturday, September 30th at 1:00 PM.
