(September 26, 2006) ?C With a 1-0-1 week, the 2006 Fordham University men??s soccer team is off to the best start to a season in school history as the Rams improved to 6-0-2, and continue to be ranked in three separate polls.
The Rams remained in the 12th spot in the latest NSCAA Coaches?? Poll, tied with Old Dominion, while standing pat at #24 in the Soccer America College Top 25 poll and dropping to 30th in the poll by College Soccer News. The Rams also remain as the number one ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Ranking by the NSCAA.
The Rams defeated cross-Bronx rivals Manhattan College, 1-0, in overtime this week while also playing Iona College to a 1-1 tie. Leading the way this week were junior forward Kevin Meyer, who scored the game-winner in overtime against Manhattan and now has four goals on the year, all game-winners. Also playing well was junior keeper Doug Devereaux, who notched his third shut out of the year in the Manhattan game, and Ryan Brown, who netted the Rams?? goal in the Iona tie.
The Rams will open Atlantic 10 play this week as they travel to St. Bonaventure University for a match on Saturday, September 30th at 2:00 p.m.
